Grenada National Volunteer ServiceThe National Disaster Management Agency (NaDMA) depends on public and private stakeholders at all levels to provide efficient and reliable service. This requires a robust volunteer management system since the secretariat alone does not have the capacity to do so. There are seventeen district disaster committees comprising of community volunteers that assist the National Disaster Office (ND0) to fulfil its mandate. These community members are usually the first responders to an emergency and must be empowered through training as it relates to disaster management to save lives and protect property. Community members should know the proper procedures when an emergency or disaster occurs especially when communication fails. |

Upgrade of Emergency Operations Centres1. Installation of Generators at three DEOCs
The Government of Grenada has recently received three (3) District Emergency Operations Centres (DEOCs) from the United States Southern Command in 2013. Along with the three DEOCs, Grenada has received three Emergency stand-by generators, one for each of the DEOCs. In order to ensure that there is back-up emergency power supply at the DEOCs, the stand-by generators need to be installed and maintained. This project will provide the resources for the installation of three stand-by generators, along with protective housing for the units.
2. Construction of protective Housing for Generator at the NEOC
The National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC) currently has a stand-by generator that provides emergency power for the operations of the National Disaster Office, which houses the NEOC. The unit is currently functional and is being serviced regularly.
However, the generator does not have a protective housing, which leaves it exposed to the elements of sun and rain. This exposure can lead to accelerated deterioration of the generator thus rendering it eventually non-functional and depriving the NEOC of critical back up power in the event of an emergency.
This project will provide the resources for the construction of protective housing for the generator which serves the NEOC and the National Disaster Office. |

NAWASA’S School Community Water Storage ProjectNAWASA continues to participate in the United Nations World Water Day Celebrations. The overarching objective of “Water Cooperation 2015” encourages and nurtures water sustainability under the theme ‘Water and Sustainable Development’. NAWASA was unable to provide trucked water to these schools because they had no or limited storage capacity. Communities have reached out to NAWASA stressing the negative impact such closures have on the nation. In light of this NAWASA designed a project aimed at ensuring that there is a basic water storage facility in all schools. |
